pike lure preference?

Steven B asked:

on spoons and spinners, do you prefer dressed or undressed treble hooks. and if dressed do you like small dressing(1 thin inch of bucktail), medium dressing(2-4 thick inches of bucktail or marabou), or large dressing (5-9 inches of flash and marabou and what ever)

also, what are your favorite pike lures (i am pretty new to pike fishing, use friend’s lures when at camp(which they own)so any input would be great)

thanks in advance
JB

i will use bait, probably alot, but also want input on lures

might use flys, if do what do i use for a leader for the fly
for spoons and spinners, what do you think of the giant dressings, say like the ones in here http://cgi.ebay.com/11-Bucktail-Muskie-Musky-Lure-Spinnerbait-Pike-Bass-DC_W0QQitemZ380050954063QQihZ025QQcategoryZ1493QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

i won’t buy those ones but what do you think of the size of the dressing

You should use a fly pole and use wet flies/minnows

I prefer spoons and large Mepps spinners….with bucktail dressing with the red in the middle like a line of blood…keep it moving – also topwater lures work good if the water is kind of calm…

Look for a Mooselook lure…they work really good to – larger the better!!

They make leader material for fly fishing for northerns. I use big rapala’s as well as spinners for Pike.

i like to use spoons, but i only tip my weedless ones. trolling with the rapala countdown magnums work excellent also. tip a spinner bait with a live minnow.

correct me if I’m wrong but, now the current world record is 55.4 pounds and was caught not too long ago in alberta.
i think it was alberta. the point is though that the pike caught in germany is no longer the world record.

spoons are the best, the world record pike was caught like 30 years ago by a kid who took the bowl part of a spoon of the handle and painted it and pit a hook on it cause he was bored he went outside and caught the world record. so i would use spoons.

1. without a question in my mind, I grew up in michigan and work for the DNR as a Fisheries Tech. the answer is a red and white DAREDEVIL, its a spoon.

2. dressed

3. 1 inch

The way I’ve caught Northern Pike the most is by trolling a Dare Devil or Red Devil Spoon with a sharp treble hook.

A 5 inch firetiger rapala will work great.
