This “Canada Video” was sent to us by what could be the most creative family fishing trip group that we’ve ever had stay at one of our Outpost Cabins! They sure look like the whole family had a great time making this Rap Video of their fishing trip to Canada! Check it out:

Loganberry Tales

Loganberry is where we’ll be
Flying here straight with Kashabowie Outposts

With our friend Fern this place is tight
You can get yourself here in half an hour flight

This lake is great and the cabin is kickin’
You can catch yourself some fish and you’re finger lickin’

This place is the best and we wish we could stay
eat sleep and fish, every single day.

So now lets kick it, to the first verse
Common now Jake, just like we rehearsed.

The weather is perfect, not to hot or cold
Put this place for sale, and two seconds it’d be sold

You can swim if you want, but it’s a little chilly
and when you start to shiver, you’ll look really silly

So we make a fire, so big it burns a tree
You can say goodbye to your eagles and your bees

Where my momma lets my beard, grow out long,
and she tries to write verses to her own song.

Where I don’t need to stay and clean my dish
Instead I get to go out and catch a fish

It’s Canada, that’s where we are
Just ask Fern, cause it’s not that far.

The water’s cold, I’m not gonna lie,
but deep inside is the big walleye

Sleeping on the bed is nice and comfy
you won’t fall off like humpty dumpty

No other places have showers this nice
Look no more, Fern’s got the best price.

Only a three mile walk to the can,
hope I don’t get jumped by that shadow man,

This cabin is bombin’ I don’t really mean to diss
But do really need this bridge to take a piss?

I love it here, it’s all fun and good,
but my homies be callin’ they need me in the hood.

I can’t wait to get back to the USA
I guess Canada wasn’t all bad – ‘eh’?

Thanks for the memories, we had a lot of fun
but now I’m sad, cause it’s all done

I’ll miss fishing, playing too,
but we snuck 50 fish back,

Best fishing techniques for spring walleye in Canada

Fishing and Travel report to Ear Falls, Ontario, Canada

Hello everyone,

We are still receiving questions about Hwy 502 as a travel route to Ear Falls and then onto Woman River Camp. Hwy 502 is presently being paved. Guests inform us they have experienced delays of 10 – 60 minutes in total. Usually by a flagman. Our summers are short up here so the road crews even work weekends.

South Bay Road was graded last week and is in good shape. We received an inch and a quarter of rain last night so hopefully there weren’t too many soft spots. Watch out for our Ontario Hydro crews changing out some of the poles along the road.

Camp life has been great. Lots of water in the lake….not as much as last year. I blew the belt on the lawnmower so the grass is a little long. Blueberries are ripe and people are out picking them.

Ok so now that all that info is out of the way. Lets move on to the important things like fishing report.

Not many anglers are fishing portage lakes this week. Snakeweed has fished well and so has Spot Lake…42 inch Northern along with a couple 18″ smallies highlighted the Swanson family’s portage. We are catching fish everywhere this week. Some guys are trolling spinners along weed edges and catching nice Walleye and others are fishing 18-20″ deep with jigs and catching big Walleye. The heat in the middle of the week made the day a little slow….no wind and sunny. Not the best Walleye fishing conditions. This brings me to a good point. It is great to plan a fishing day and set out to target specific species. Just remember that sometimes it is better to catch what is biting than to fish for what you would like to catch!

Bait wise, leeches and nightcrawlers are picking up steam. Minnows are still holding their own. Walleye are consistently being caught on mid lake humps and points. Hot jig colour of the week is black. Black and orange spinnerbaits for Northern Pike for the eater size. Be prepared to go deep for the big guys!

Walleye – Lindy rig – sliding weight and a hook. Coloured hooks sometimes help!

We are half way through our 2010 fishing season and would like to thank our guests and share some of their fantastic photo’s. We always appreciate the great video’s and photographs they send us.

Each year we have a photo contest for our guests, and the winner gets to go fishing on us during the next season. This contest is a challenge we enjoy each year. There are so many fantastic photo’s it makes it difficult to pick the winner. Here are some of the great photo’s we have accumulated over time.

Lake pictures are always great, there is no shortage of beautiful scenery in Northwestern Ontario.

Pictures with Aircraft in them score pretty high as well. Fishing or Boating pictures work well, like this shot at Wapikaimaski lake.

A shot including one of our outpost cabins is a sure bet. Like this unique shot out the front windows of Tommyhow lake

This is a great picture of C-FOCC departing with a canoe.

Different lake shots with varying weather conditions, can be interesting.

This is a real nice shot off the dock at Loganberry lake.

A shot that included one of the outpost cabins in it would be almost impossible to pass up as the winner.

Keep the pictures coming in, we love them all.

Some of the Loganberry crew on there way to do some Walleye fishing. They left Kashabowie Outposts this morning to start their fly in fishing trip. Loganberry is a fantastic Walleye and Northern lake that offers a full service cabin that can sleep 12. With hot and cold running water, Shower, dual fridges. There is also an ice house that gets filled each year depending on the ice and snow conditions.

This was one of the smoothest flights we have had this summer. It was 60 F at 5500 ft, a flight to remember.

Life is Sooooooo Good

I’ve been rattling on and on about the wildlife at Uchi , more so than usual. It’s just that there is so much activity going on, I feel I have to share it with you. This is one of the most unique pictures I’ve seen of a cow moose with her baby – photographed by Dave Vaughn. The same Dave that released a 29 inch walleye yesterday, then his buddy a 45 inch northern.

The Castro party also had a 45 incher on their line but it got away before getting a picture. I’m still having trouble getting my guests to post their fishing reports as the days just fly by and we run out of time. Still trying, still trying and still trying……..

Family Update

Well, well, well….after posting my last blog the partridge eggs have hatched and mom has left the nest with her babies. This is all that was left behind. You can see that two did not survive however mom has 11 to look after as it is. She won’t be far away but guaranteed she will be far enough so as to protect her young

Cheryl, Phil and Scott Hildebrand brought to my attention two more additions to the Uchi Family. Here is another picture of eggs but this time their loon eggs – look closely to see the nest tucked under the shrubs.

So much excitement on Uchi Lake this year. Cheryl was lucky enough to capture a cow moose with her calf following closely behind as they exit the lake.

And mother partridge was just spotted by Walt as they waddled past his cabin. Walt is a darn good photographer so I anticipate receiving some nice pics of them throughout this week.

Nestled in the bush beside cabin #4 is a mother partrige sitting on her nest protecting her 11 small eggs. She’s been on the nest for roughly 2 weeks now. Every once in a while we silently go down to see if there is any progress made. She doesn’t even flinch, not a feather moves. We are quite excited to see her babies successfully join the rest of the world. It should be any day now.

Our second family addition is a nest of chicks conveniently or not so conveniently tucked away in our minnow shed. You can bet that mom and dad stay very close and get pretty excited whenever we enter the shed. The chicks are just getting feathers now but still too young to do anything on their own. Larry was careful when taking the picture of their nest, after all, the parents of the chicks have claimed the shed as “their home” for the time being.

Paradise

“This is definitely paradise” quoted from Jay, a guest who has fished Uchi Lake for 30 years. Jay and I sat in the lodge porch enjoying a hot cup of coffee and I asked him to compare the fishing on Uchi from then until now. He and his group of friends/family were unanimous that the fishing has gotten plenty better. Now that’s a testimony and I am extremely proud that I have had the privilege in taking part to protect such a jewel of a fishery.

We have a couple of new groups in camp who are a delight to be around, enjoying the hospitality, the serene mornings and getting to know the hotspots.

The Hogenson party is back and what can I say? They brighten the room with their many jokes and laughter, kidding one another constantly. They’re having no problems catching fish as I see mark has released a 27 inch walleye which is posted on the Wall of Fame.

Shorelunch is just over as I sit here gazing out the window watching the gulls surround the camp boat, on its way back to camp. Must get some work done before dinner hour.
